Despite the best efforts and COVID and governments at both the state and national level who have completely abandoned the arts in the midst of lockdowns and restrictions, the live music scene in Brisbane has managed to soldier on.

Obviously venues are suffering with limits on attendee numbers and requirements around social distancing and movement, but the gigs are still happening at myriad venues and music fans are getting to experience live performances from established and new artists alike.

Given the uncertainty around when the country will ‘open’ and what that will mean for arts venues when it does happen, surely the time has come for government to offer substantial support to the arts industry and provide assurances that venues will be able to return to full capacity once this time comes.
