Fifteen plucky poets took to the stage at Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday (August 1) to battle out the first Brisbane heat of the 2015 Australian Poetry Slam. A multitude of styles form the diverse collection of contestants made for an utterly enjoyable evening, with odes covering a broad range of subject matter; from the political to the deeply personal.
An appreciative crowd filled the Turbine Platform and it was Olivia (above) who emerged as the overall winner, with Megs (pictured below) also making it through to the Queensland Final to be held at the Judith Wright Centre on Sunday, August 30 as part of the Queensland Poetry Festival.
Further events scheduled in the weeks ahead include a Moreton Bay Heat at North Lakes Library on August 25 and a second Brisbane heat at the New Globe Theatre in Fortitude Valley on August 26, with both events kicking off at 7.00pm.
