This is Mental Health Week (October 5 to 12) and World Mental Health Day is on Friday (October 10). This week is about raising community awareness of mental health issues, promoting social and emotional wellbeing to the community, encouraging people to evaluate their own state of mind and enhancing the coping capacity of those suffering from a mental illness.

Mental Health Week

Mental illness affects every Australian. Half of us will experience it directly while the rest – as carers, families, friends and colleagues – will live with or witness its impacts. It is an issue for us all and therefore everybody has a responsibility to consider their own mental health and the mental health and wellbeing of those around them.

There are various activities and initiatives in all Australian states and ABC Television has scheduled a series of programs and interviews as part of their Mental As initiative, including a fundraising campaign for mental health research. To donate to the campaign, click here.
