Another celebration of international cinema gets underway in Brisbane tomorrow (Wednesday, August 20) when the 11th annual Israeli Film Festival kicks off at Palace Centro. Over 20 feature films, short films and documentary productions will screen over the 7 days of the festival, which is presented with the support of the Australia Israel Cultural Exchange.
The 2014 festival features several films that featured at Cannes this year, including Next to Her, The Kindergarten Teacher and Self Made, a black comedy exploring politics and identity from Camera D’or winning director Shira Geffen. Other featured films include historical drama Anita B, caper comedy Kidon and The Second Son, the latest work from Eran Riklis (The Lemon Tree, The Syrian Bride) that explores the relationship between Arabs and Jews in the 1980’s. The closing night film on Wednesday, August 27 will be the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award-winning documentary The Green Prince.
