Are you aged between 18 and 25 and love to write? Would you like $2000? If you answered yes to both questions then you should be signing up for the 2014 SLQ Young Writers Award. In addition to the cash prize on offer, this could be a career-launching opportunity for a talented young Queensland writer.

Young Writers Award

Sponsored by the State Library of Queensland, the Young Writers Award is open to Queensland residents 18-25. Entries must be 2500 words or less and must be submitted no later than Friday, July 18.

In addition to the $2000 first prize for the best story, there is also $500 on offer to the runner-up and a variety of prizes for highly commended entries, including a 12-month membership to the Queensland Writers Centre.

To assist writers in developing their skills, the Queensland Writers Centre is running a free workshop Brisbane on Saturday, June 28.
